USA Swimming has announced the medals for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials. The gold and silver medals have the same design, with the outline of the Eiffel Tower cut out.
It's worth noting that the gold and silver medals are the same, but winning the silver medal does not guarantee an athlete will be able to compete for Team USA in Paris. In 2021 (heading up to the 2020 Tokyo Games), the U.S. men had a 6th place finisher in the 100m freestyle. Ryan Held Returned home due to relay roster restrictions.
All 2nd place The usual With 26 players on the roster, there's still a chance someone will have to stay home, even if there's an Eiffel Tower for the silver medal. The second place athlete will be given her second priority for qualification.
- Top 4 in 100/200 free and wins in all other events
- 2nd place in all events (excluding 100/200 free)
- 5th place winner in 100/200 free
- 100/200 free 6th place winner
In total, up to 20 players can qualify in priority 1 and 12 players in second place can qualify in priority 2. That means if there aren't enough doubles, someone could be sent home.
The bronze medal does not have an outline of the Eiffel Tower; instead, it has a cutout of the tower and is instead entirely circular.
The U.S. Olympic Trials will be held from June 15th to June 23rd at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. USA Swimming began selling single-session tickets about a week ago.
The medals for the Paris Olympics were also announced in February and have already been revealed. Each medal features a piece of iron from the Eiffel Tower.
