Yoto Chidzo from Nagaland has qualified to compete in the upcoming 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG).
AIMAG is a transcontinental multi-sport event involving athletes from all over Asia.
Chizo will be participating as part of the Indian Muay Thai team at AIMAG, which will be held in Thailand from November 21-30, 2024.
Chizo secured his place in AIMAG after the selection trials which were held in Jorhat on July 18, 2024. He will be playing in the under-71kg category.
Yoto, 22, the son of Lazci Chizo from Kutsokno village, Tiz district, Phek district, is also set to compete in the upcoming 2024 National Martial Arts Olympics.
The event is scheduled to be held from September 21 to 26 in Uttarakhand.
He had earlier won a silver medal in the 67kg category at the UMAI (Muay Thai Association of India) Federation Cup held from December 14-16, 2022 in Agartala, Tripura.
He also won a silver medal at the National Muay Thai Championships in 2023 held in Chennai.
He won a gold medal in boxing at the Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2022, held from August 22-27, 2022.
He won a gold medal in martial arts at the North East Games 2024, which was held in Nagaland from March 18 to 23.
Chizo won the gold medal in the men's under-23 71kg category at the UMAI National Muay Thai Championships 2024, held in Assam from May 25 to 30, 2024.
He represented India at the East Asian Muay Thai Championships, organised by the China Hong Kong Muay Thai Association from November 23-26, 2023, where he won a bronze medal in the men's 71kg category.
Chizo represented Nagaland at the National Muay Thai Championships held in Guwahati in June 2024 and brought home a gold medal.
