Now in its 16th year, the Terrier Twelve recognizes the best achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous school year. In 2023-24, more than half of Boston University's teams have won a conference title or been runners-up in the league championship, and all of those programs will be reflected in the countdown. Coming in second in this year's Terrier 12 was men's ice hockey, which won the Hobey Baker Award. Macklin Celebrini He led the Terriers to a second consecutive Frozen Four appearance.
Ranked No. 1 in the nation in the preseason, BU remained in the top 10 all season and in the top two in both national polls throughout the year en route to its 24th appearance in the Frozen Four. The Terriers won two games in the NCAA Sioux Falls Regional, 6-3, and punched their ticket to St. Paul with a win over then-No. 7 Minnesota in the Regional Final. Celebrini was named the Regional Player of the Year after totaling five points (one goal, four assists) in two games, including three key assists in the win over Minnesota.
Second year head coach Jay Pandolfo He led BU to a 28-10-2 record and was again named a finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award for National Coach of the Year, and he became the fastest active Division I men's ice hockey head coach at his current school to reach 50 wins.
Celebrini was the first pick in this June's NHL draft and signed with the San Jose Sharks. He became the fourth Division I men's college hockey player to win the Hobey Baker Award, the fourth Terrier overall, and the youngest player in the nation to win the award at 17 years old. He also became the fourth player to be named Hockey East Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season, was named to the All-American First Team, and won the Tim Taylor Award as National Rookie of the Year. This season, he scored 32 goals and 32 assists for a total of 64 points, making him the only player in the nation to reach 30 goals and 30 assists.
Sophomore Lane Hutson Hutson was named First Team All-America for the second consecutive year, becoming the first Terriers to be named First Team All-American in the same season since 2014-15 (Jack Eichel, Matt Grzelik). Hutson had a standout 2023-24 season, recording a career-high 15 goals and 34 assists for a career-best 49 points. Hutson led all blue lines in the country with an average of 1.29 points per game last season. A two-time Hockey East First Team All-Star and New England Division I All-Star, Hutson posted impressive numbers of 30 goals, 67 assists and 97 total points in 77 games, the most among active NCAA defensemen.
Hutson and Celebrini were two of the Terriers' four Hockey East All-Stars, along with freshman defenseman Tom Wilander and junior goaltender. Matthieu Calon In addition, graduate students Cade Webber He was named Hockey East's Defensive Defenseman of the Year after setting a new NCAA single-season record with 137 blocked shots and was one of two inaugural recipients of the Hockey East Academic Champion award. BU tied a program record as 15 Terriers, including Weber and Celebrini, were named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team.
