Twin Port Hockey Camp holds first day of activities
It's not often that young athletes have the opportunity to learn skills from several coaches and former professional players, but Twin Ports Hockey Camps allows them to do just that, practicing on the ice in Superior on the first day of camp.
“This area takes great pride in its hockey tradition and I think the biggest thing is that this is a small hockey hub that has produced so many great players over the years who have played at an elite level,” said founder, head instructor and former professional hockey player Brett Olson. “Having the UMD Bulldogs nearby, plus UWS and St. Scholastica providing a higher level of hockey for our players, I think that's definitely encouraging and motivating for our younger players.
The UMD Bulldogs also voiced their support for the camp.
“I used to go to these camps as a kid, so I went to all of them,” Aaron Pionk said. “A lot of the kids that come to the camps are players you wouldn't think of at the time, but as they grow up they develop and become college or professional hockey players. Maybe one day I'll end up playing against these kids in professional hockey, and that'll be really interesting.”
The Twin Ports hockey camp will run through Thursday before moving to Iowa for a second week of camp and activities.
