Mankato, Minnesota – Minnesota State University has announced the hiring of Emily Anthony as assistant women's hockey coach.
Anthony is a Maverick alumna. She graduated in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and psychology and a minor in sports medicine. “We are pleased to welcome Emily Anthony to Minnesota State,” Dickerman said. “We had a selection of highly qualified candidates, but Emily's passion for the program and desire to inspire the next generation of Mavericks was unquestionable. Emily's hockey IQ, leadership and excellent interpersonal skills will allow her to immediately connect with our players.”
As a senior student-athlete, Anthony served as captain for the Mavericks in 2019-20. She played in 37 games in her final season and was the 20th-best player in the NBA.Number With his point against Minnesota Duluth, he reached 50 career points.
Anthony graduated with 70 career points, ranking ninth in school history, and also tied the school record with 145 games played from 2015-2020. Collegiate accolades include WCHA Scholar Athlete (four times), WCHA All-Academic Team, Dean's List, SAAC member and Minnesota Rookie of the Year (2015-2016).
A native of Rogers, Minnesota, Anthony played lacrosse and hockey at Rogers High School. Following a storied collegiate career, Anthony went on to serve as the assistant equipment manager for student-athletes in football, lacrosse, women's golf and women's basketball at the University of Colorado.
Anthony gained experience as a hockey coach with the Minnesota Advancement Program, where she led clinic sessions and tournaments for female hockey players ages 10 to 18. In that role, Anthony mentored players and helped them develop confidence, teamwork and on-ice skills. She also completed a physical therapy internship with the Minnesota Twins in 2019.
“I couldn't be more excited to return to the women's hockey team as an assistant coach,” said Anthony. “Minnesota State University holds a special place in my heart, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to the program and call Mankato home again. I'm excited to work with our talented and dedicated student-athletes and help them achieve their goals on and off the ice. It's an honor to be part of such a passionate and motivated coaching staff, and I look forward to bringing my experience, passion and enthusiasm to the team. The program has grown significantly since I began working here in 2015, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to its success.”
Anthony will begin the job Aug. 1. The Minnesota State University women's hockey team will open the 2024-25 season with an exhibition match against the University of Manitoba in Richmond, Minnesota, on Sept. 28. The regular season will begin at home against Long Island University on Oct. 4 and 5 at the Mayo Clinic Health System Events Center.
