Paddy Pimblett was thrilled to silence his haters by defeating King Greene on the main card of UFC 304.
Pimblett (22-3 MMA) faced arguably the toughest test of his MMA career last night when he faced Green (32-16-1 MMA) in Manchester, England.
Despite a perfect 5-0 record in the Octagon to date, many analysts and some professional fighters believed “The Buddy” would be too tough to beat the 37-year-old Green.
Of course, that wasn't the case on Saturday night. Instead, Paddy Pimblett produced a sensational performance that silenced the critics and ended with King Green being put to sleep after 3 minutes and 22 seconds of the first round.
As Green lunged for a takedown, Pimblett quickly applied a guillotine choke, after which “The Buddy” beautifully transitioned into a triangle choke and, after several adjustments, Green was finally knocked unconscious (watch it here).
Following his stellar performance that earned him a $200,000 bonus, Paddy Pimblett attended the UFC 304 post-fight press conference and had a message for the doubters:
“Yeah it's awesome. Nothing beats shutting up the idiots! So awesome. I love shutting up the haters. A lot of people saying, 'He'll never be ranked. He's not good enough to be ranked. He's not even in the top 15.' Even a fighter I saw on YouTube, saying bad things about him, goes out there and puts on a perfect performance and totally beats him (it was awesome).”
When asked why Green decided to go for the takedown, Pimblett admitted he was surprised.
“I was surprised by how he came at me. He's had some great stand-up fights, like the Jim Miller fight. He's fought Jaylin Turner. He fought (Rafael) Fiziev three rounds and won in the third round. That's what everyone was talking about leading up to this fight. But everyone's underestimating me because I'm like a 14-year-old girl.”
Paddy Pimblett has slammed Renato Moicano after his sensational performance at UFC 304. “The Buddy” also suggested that he and the Brazilian should be coaches on the next season of TUF because it would be “comedic gold standard.”
Who do you think Pimblett will fight next?
