Nigerian boxer Cynthia Ogunsemilo will miss the 2024 Paris Olympics after being provisionally suspended after failing a drugs test.
Ogunsemirol, who won gold at the African Games in Accra earlier this year and a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022, tested positive for the banned substance furosemide, which is classified as a diuretic and masking agent.
The out-of-competition samples were taken on July 25 by the International Testing Agency (ITA) on behalf of the International Olympic Committee.
The 22-year-old can appeal the result but a verdict is not expected to be handed down before her Olympic debut against Chinese Taipei's See Yi Wu in the lightweight 60kg class on Monday.
The BBC has contacted the Nigerian Olympic Committee for a response.
Ogunsemilo's result means Nigeria has had a player suspended for doping at two consecutive Olympic Games, following sprinter Blessing Okagbare's positive doping test in Tokyo three years ago.
Okagbare was subsequently banned for 11 years for using human growth hormone.
Ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, there were concerns that Nigerian athletes might not be able to compete under their own flag after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) alleged that the Nigerian anti-doping agency was not complying with WADA regulations.
Nigeria's National Anti-Doping Commission has denied the charges and the case is currently being heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
