Who are the Antetokounmpo Brothers?
The Antetokounmpo brothers are a quartet of professional basketball players, with Giannis being the most famous of them all.
Giannis is a two-time NBA MVP and won the 2021 NBA Finals with the Milwaukee Bucks. His brother, professional athlete Thanasis, also has a two-way contract with Milwaukee and has won an NBA championship.
His youngest brothers Kostas and Alex play in the EuroLeague and Lithuanian Basketball League respectively.
Both brothers are Greek citizens, but only Giannis and Kostas were named to the national team ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, which they qualified for with an 80-69 win over Croatia on July 7.
However, according to EuroHoops, Kostas was left out of Greece's Olympic team due to a knee injury, and Thanasis also missed the national team due to an injury of his own, leaving Giannis as the only brother on Greece's team.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo, 31, was selected 51st overall by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft and played a few seasons with the Knicks' G League team before returning to the professional ranks in Greece and signing with the Bucks in 2019, where he remains.
Kostas Antetokounmpo, who was selected to the Greek Olympic team in 2024, currently plays for the Greek-based EuroLeague team Panathinaikos. The 60th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, he was part of the 2024 EuroLeague Championship team.
Kostas Antetokounmpo is also an NBA champion, having won as a two-way player with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. Alex, 22, is the youngest of four siblings and currently plays in the Lithuanian Professional Soccer League in Lithuania.
Francis, the eldest of five Antetokounmpo siblings, does not play basketball.
Giannis is likely to finish his career as one of the best players in NBA history, having been nominated for the All-Star Game eight times, won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award in 2020, and won two MVP awards. Giannis Antetokounmpo hopes to lead his country to a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
