The Clemson University Tigers men's soccer team will begin its schedule with a series of exhibition games to prepare for its season opener against Penn State on Aug. 22.
The Tigers will use the schedule to prepare to defend the national title they won last year, the fourth in school history and the second under coach Mike Noonan, who recently signed a contract extension through 2023.
Noonan is one of three coaches in Clemson history to win two national titles, joining former head football coach Dabo Swinney and former men's soccer coach Dr. I.M. Ibrahim.
The Tigers are scheduled to play three exhibition games before the season opener, two of which will be at home, but the first will be on Aug. 10 against the 49ers in Charlotte.
Clemson then returns home for two more games, hosting Mobile on Aug. 13 and Georgia State on Aug. 17.
The Tigers will play two non-conference games before their ACC opener. The first is their regular season opener, a home opener against Penn State on Aug. 22. The Tigers will then travel to Columbia to take on South Carolina in the Palmetto Series on Aug. 30.
ACC play begins on Sept. 6 with a home matchup against new ACC member Stanford.
The game will be a rematch of last year's NCAA quarterfinal, which Clemson won 2-0. Stanford was the No. 1 team in the country at one point last season in both the United Soccer Coaches and Top Drawer Soccer rankings.
Clemson will play ACC games at home against Wake Forest, North Carolina and Syracuse, while the Tigers will travel to play Boston College, Notre Dame, Louisville and Virginia Tech before facing the Hokies in the regular-season finale on Nov. 1.
