UFC strawweight contender Virna Jandiroba wasn't happy to hear less-than-positive opinions about women's mixed martial arts from fellow fighters.
Jandiroba recorded her biggest win to date last weekend when she submitted former title challenger Amanda Lemos in the main event of UFC Fight Night at the Apex, earning the right to her first title fight.
The bout ended in a brutal armbar submission, marking Jandiroba's fourth consecutive win inside the Octagon. She was widely praised after this impressive performance, but one person who probably wasn't watching was lightweight Loic Radjabov.
“The Tajik Tank,” who lost to Jandiroba on the main event preliminary card, made some negative comments about the women's division in mixed martial arts last week, decrying trips to the bathroom midway through the card as “breaks.”
“Well, no matter who is fighting, I don't watch,” Radjabov told Red Corner MMA, “and actually, when the women fight, I take a break to have a snack or go to the bathroom.”
Jandirova asks Radjabov for help in “overcoming problems”
During Saturday night's post-fight press conference, Jandiroba reflected on her first notable win at UFC and responded to Radjabov's comments about her and other women competing in MMA's top organization.
In a short response to the remarks, the Brazilian strawweight boxer suggested that Lazabov has “issues” that only a specialist can solve.
“I can't help him, but he may need to be analyzed. That means he needs to find a therapist who can help him overcome the problems he's having. Maybe he has something he needs to work through and he needs to find a professional who can help him work it out.”
Radjabov, who fell to 2-2 at UFC after losing a decision to Trey Ogden on July 20, will be looking to bounce back in his next bout and avoid a losing record inside the Octagon.
Meanwhile, Jandiroba appears to have her sights set on UFC gold following her win over Brazilian strawweight Lemos, and “Karkala” is hoping her “quirkiness” will provide a unique challenge for champion Zhang Weili.
