Boston Celtics forward Sam Hauser, one of the NBA's most accurate 3-point shooters, has agreed to a four-year, $45 million contract extension, his agent Jason Gurchon told ESPN on Sunday.
Hauser, who will make $2 million in the 2024-25 season, will be signed through 2028-29 with a total Celtics payroll that is expected to be the richest in NBA history.
Hauser, who went undrafted out of the University of Virginia in 2021, was a development story for the Celtics and a key contributor to the team's championship run. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Hauser shot 42.4% from three-point range last season, fourth-best among players with at least 400 attempts. For his career, he has shot 42.2% from three-point range.
In addition to Hauser, the Celtics also signed All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum (five years, $315 million) and guard Derrick White (four years, $125 million) to contract extensions this summer.
Hauser's extension would bring the Celtics' 2025-26 salary to $225 million, plus another $210 million in luxury tax penalties. The Celtics are projected to finish second or better in the league for the second straight year, and they would receive untradeable first-round draft picks in 2032 and 2033.
The Celtics' combined payroll and luxury tax bill is expected to be the highest in league history. The Phoenix Suns currently have a combined bill of $432 million.
Hauser, 26, made 179 catch-and-shoot 3-pointers last season, sixth-most in the NBA, according to Second Spectrum.
Hauser became just the third player in Celtics history to make 10 three-pointers in a game last season, joining Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart.
