Gervonta “Tank” Davis' coach, Kenny Ellis, took to social media to scold Vasiliy Lomachenko for his lack of willingness to return to the ring for a unification bout with the Baltimore native.
Ellis yelled at Lomachenko, telling him he should retire if he wasn't willing to fight Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs). Interestingly, Tank's desire to fight Lomachenko wasn't present from 2018 until 2023, but has only just now come to light.
“If Lomachenko can't be motivated by the chance to become 'The Face of Boxing,' his team should hang his gloves up somewhere he'll never reach again. He's finished,” coach Kenny Ellis said on social media, in response to Vasiliy Lomachenko reportedly telling his manager Eguis Klimas that he has no intention of fighting Gervonta “Tank” Davis at the moment.
Lomachenko's manager, Eguis Klimas, didn't rule out the possibility of Lomachenko fighting Tank, only that he doesn't want to fight him until the end of the year, when the bout was scheduled to take place.
“Roma doesn't feel good,” Klimas told Steve Kim on X yesterday. [to fight Tank Davis] “Right now, he doesn't have that motivation.”
Some fans feel that Tank Davis was interested in fighting Lomachenko because he is 36 and showing signs of aging. In other words, Gervonta and his team saw some vulnerable prey that they could use their wolf-like instincts to pounce on and take down.
Interestingly, Gervonta fans are quick to attack Lomachenko and call him a duck, but say nothing about the years when Tank didn't want to fight him. It's as if they have amnesia about past events.
Fans forget about Team Tank ducking
Tank's team is hoping for this fight, at least six years after it was first talked about. People need to take their minds off the Roma “avoidance” stories. pic.twitter.com/XrIjZRAEqC

What Tank Davis did is typical in this sport: avoid a dangerous fighter in his prime, wait until he's older, then challenge him to a fight. This is the way this sport works, and it's pathetic.
Many fans are dropping out and focusing on watching mixed martial arts, where at least the sport has big fights that happen on the schedule, rather than waiting years for a fighter to show signs of decline.
Obviously that’s what Tank Davis and his team did with Lomachenko, and now they’re in a favorable position and making noises that Lomachenko won’t agree to fight Tank anytime soon.
