Wizards prospect Alex Sarr's performance on Thursday night continued a trend of a tough start to his career in the United States.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft from France was limited to just two points in a 73-69 win over the Kings.
In 27 minutes, he made just 1 of 6 shots, giving him a shooting percentage of 16.7% on the night.
In the Wizards' last game — an 82-80 loss to Portland on Tuesday — the 19-year-old was held scoreless, going 0-of-15 from the field and missing all seven of his 3-point attempts.
So far, he is averaging 4.1 points on just 19.1 percent shooting from the field through four games.
Over the past two games combined, Sarr is 1-of-21 from the field and 0-of-7 from three-point range.
He also accumulated 10 fouls.
Before the draft in June, analysts and pundits speculated that the 2024 class would be one of the weakest in recent memory, with Fox Sports' Rick Butcher having harsh words for a “historically bad” group.
So far, Searle hasn't done much to dispel this notion that has plagued freshmen for some time.
“The 2024 NBA Draft has already been announced,” he wrote. “Terrible. Historically the worst. Very disappointing. Possibly the worst ever.”
A Western Conference executive even told Butcher that there were “no All-Stars” in the class.
But on Thursday, Sarr managed to steal the spotlight late in the game.
With 20 seconds left, the 7-footer took advantage of a missed shot, made a run and passed the ball to teammate Patrick Baldwin Jr., who finished off the basket with the winning goal.
The play was the last of Sarr's four assists.
He'll try to get his shooting rhythm back on Saturday when the Wizards host the Bucks.
