WAYNE, Pa. (CBS) – The football world is buzzing with excitement. Cavan Sullivan's historic debut He joined the Philadelphia Union at the age of 14. Sullivan became the youngest player to play. He is expected to play in Wednesday's game at Subaru Park and make his Major League Soccer debut.
Sullivan is an inspiration to many, including dozens of kids who attend youth soccer camps at YSC Sports in Wayne, Montgomery County.
“he [Sullivan] “He's so young and he's on a pro team because he's really talented,” said Daniel Gazdag Jr., 7, of Conshohocken. Daniel is the son of Daniel Gazdag Sr., a player for the Philadelphia Union.
Daniel plays in the same facility where Sullivan trained two years ago, and Union II assistant coach Fred Da Silva said he'd spoken to Sullivan many times and seen him daily.
“He's a good teammate and I think he's on his way to being one of the best players in the world,” da Silva said.
To many kids, Sullivan is living proof that hard work and dedication pays off.
“It's amazing that he's a 14-year-old soccer player,” said Ellie Nguyen, 8, of Wayne. “It's unbelievable.”
