EAST LANSING — It's been a historic few years for high school sports in the Gaylord area, with state championships, all-state performances and a slew of other achievements putting the spotlight on the small northern Michigan city.
It's no secret where this recent success comes from, as Gaylord, St. Mary and Johannesburg-Lewiston have numerous players in the Class of 2024 who are looking to attend college. It's also no secret how much the three area high schools will miss their recently graduated seniors.
Before saying their final farewell, another GHS star will get the chance to pull on a Blue Devil jersey one last time.
Claire Gorno of the Gaylord soccer team was recently selected to play in the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association’s inaugural Senior All-Star Game, to be held on Saturday, July 19th in East Lansing.
“I'm really excited to be playing, I'm excited to not only represent Gaylord but the Big North Conference,” Gorno said.

Gorno received all-state honors for the third straight year after a successful senior season, moving from her usual forward position to midfield in 2024 to help the team generate more scoring opportunities. Her final numbers matched her BNC best, recording eight goals and 16 assists and earning her first-team all-conference honors.
She finished her high school career with a total of 49 goals and 85 assists.
Gorno has signed to play football at Albion College, an NCAA Division III school in Albion, Michigan, and is one of 17 recent GHS graduates who have signed letters of intent to play the sport in college.
The All-Star Game will be held at the East Lansing Soccer Complex and will feature four games, two men's and two women's. The women's games are scheduled for noon and 4 p.m., while the men's games are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
