The field in Paris will feature the largest number of female boxers The sport will feature six weight classes, the most in Olympic history. The women's sport has grown exponentially since joining the Olympic Games in 2012, and the field is now stronger than ever.
A century of Olympic sportsThis could be the last Olympic boxing event. The IOC recently severed ties with boxing's previous governing body and said boxing may be phased out completely before the Los Angeles Games, but breakaway organisations are fighting to keep the sport alive.
This area includes: Waseem Abu Sall, 20, Palestine's first Olympic boxer, and Omid Ahmadisafa, an Iranian kickboxing and Muay Thai champion and flyweight on the Refugee Olympic Team, who has focused on boxing since seeking asylum in Germany in 2021.
Key Dates
Boxing will begin on July 27 and finish on August 10, the day before the Closing Ceremony. The final five days of competition, including the gold medal match, will be held at the famous Roland Garros tennis stadium.
