Arthur Staple Athletic It was reported that the New York Rangers are unlikely to move Jacob Trouba before next season, but there is a good chance the Rangers could move him next summer when the salary cap becomes even more strained.
Prior to the NHL Draft, the New York Post reported that the Rangers were trying to trade the Michigan native to the Detroit Red Wings, though subsequent reports have said the Rangers and Red Wings were never close to a deal.
Trouba has two years left under his $8 million salary cap hit, and the Rangers will be looking to re-sign Alex Lafreniere, K'Andre Miller and goaltender Igor Shesterkin next summer, at which point they may have to buy out or trade Trouba, their captain.
The rugged defenseman has a 15-team no-trade clause. One complication for Trouba is that he is married to a physician who is doing his residency in the New York area.
Red Wings For those who missed it
Simon Edvinsson has been building muscle this summer in order to become a full-time NHL defenseman.
Bob Duff writes that the Red Wings could have more depth this season, including the goaltending additions of Cam Talbot and Jack Campbell.
Where have all the former Red Wings players gone? Filip Zadina is considering playing in Europe.
