Bangkok, July 17, 2024–The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will host its second annual “Amazing Muay Thai Experience” event series, which will take place in the four origins of Muay Thai Boran martial arts from August to September this year, aiming to boost inter-regional travel and equalize the distribution of tourism revenues within the country.
TAT Governor Tapanee Kiatpaibool said:“Muay Thai, the ancient martial art, is a part of Thailand's national heritage and a world-renowned element of Thai culture. Muay Thai is an integral part of Thailand's 5F soft power infrastructure, which also includes food, film, fashion, martial arts and festivals, and represents a wide range of travel experiences in the Kingdom of Thailand.”
The event highlights an exciting lineup of Muay Thai-focused events organised by TAT throughout the year to provide tourists with the opportunity to learn more about Thai martial arts in its birthplace.
The four distinct styles of Muay Boran, or traditional Thai boxing, include Muay Chaiya in the south, Muay Korat in the northeast, Muay Ta Sao in the north, and Muay Lopburi in the central region, which originated in Surat Thani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Uttaradit, and Lopburi respectively.
The first event will be held from August 2 to 4 at Chalerm Prakiat 84th Birthday Memorial Park in Surat Thani Province. The event will cover stance, three-step approach, Waicle The rituals, the costumes, the wrapping of fists with raw rope, the training drills, and the use of the body as a weapon.
The second event is scheduled to be held at Wat Yai Ta Sao, Muang District, Uttaradit from August 16 to 18, showcasing the fast-paced and versatile “Muay Ta Sao” fighting art, which combines Thai and Chinese martial arts techniques.
The third event is scheduled to be held at Meru Bramathat, Phimai province, Nakhon Ratchasima from September 6 to 8. The event will showcase the “Muekolat” martial art, known for powerful kicks and punches and a wide-angle punch known as the “buffalo swing fist”.
The final in the four-event series will be held in Lop Buri from Sept 13 to 15 at King Narai's palace in Muang district. The event will focus on “Mue Lop Buri” martial arts, characterised by quick evasive manoeuvres.
At each venue, Muay Thai enthusiasts and martial arts enthusiasts can enjoy an experience and gain a deeper understanding of the life and philosophy behind the legendary Thai martial art, while also learning proper techniques from Muay Thai masters.
In addition to introducing the Muay Thai Boran martial arts, the program will include Muay Thai matches, Muay Tap Chuck and May TareThere are booths offering amulet tattoos, Thai boxing arcade games, Muay Thai training courses and equipment, etc. Music concerts by Thai artists and a food zone featuring famous local restaurants and must-try dishes add to the exhilarating atmosphere.
