Kalamazoo, Michigan — The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced that 62 players, including six Broncos players, were named to the league's Academic All-Conference Team.
Alex Bump, Sam Colangelo, Cole Klusberg Rosen, Owen Michaels, Ian Somoza and Garrett Szydlowski The new recruits from WMU bring the team's total this season to 22. Of those 22 players, 14 are honorable mention scholarship athletes.
Bump finished his rookie season with a 3.11 GPA in sports management. On the ice, he was named to the NCHC All-Rookie Team and finished the season with 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points.
Colangelo was just as good in the classroom, finishing the year with a 3.16 collegiate ERA. On the ice, he was named NCHC All-Athlete of the Year, scoring a team-high 24 goals and finishing the year with 43 total points.
Cruzberg-Rosen earned the honors of being a Scholar-Athlete during her freshman year at Western Michigan University as a Business Law major with a 4.00 GPA. She appeared in 22 games on the ice, totaling three assists and six blocked shots.
Michaels was another outstanding freshman for the Broncos, finishing the year in pre-business with a 3.76 GPA, which earned him recognition as an Outstanding Scholar-Athlete. As an athlete, Michaels had a great season, finishing with two goals and five assists for seven points.
Somoza also excelled in the classroom, earning a 3.90 GPA in personal financial planning, which made him a standout student-athlete. He played in 10 games before suffering a season-ending injury.
Szydlowski finished the year as an NCHC Outstanding Scholar-Athlete with a 3.80 GPA in advertising and promotions. He did not play in the 2023-24 season.
