Lightweight contender Keyshawn Davis is critical of Raymond Muratala’s recent win over Tevin Farmer.
Muratala won a unanimous decision on Saturday at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, but struggled to gain an advantage in the first five rounds.
Davis (11-0, 7 KOs), 25, of Norfolk, Virginia, took to social media platform X on Sunday to slam Muratala (21-0, 16 KOs), 27, of Fontana, California, while also saying he didn't deserve the fight.
“You're a loser,” Davis said. Posts“I really lost last night. This year I'm going to fight and show you how frustrated I am.”
According to Compubox, Muratala landed more punches than Farmer in just four rounds, from the seventh to the tenth.
These statistics (far from an exact science) tell us that Murata Lam landed 106 of 481 total punches thrown, while Farmer landed 109 of 446. The judges favored Murata Lam's higher work rate (scores 95-94, 97-92, 96-93), and referee Thomas Taylor deducted one point for holding in round 8.
An account associated with Robert Garcia's boxing academy responded with X, “Let us know @trboxing. This is the first time I've mentioned Raymond by name. Glad he finally feels ready.”
Davis, apparently not impressed, responded, “Blah blah blah. I'm gonna beat the crap out of your son.”
Davis is fresh off a 10-round unanimous decision victory over 25-year-old Miguel Madueno (31-3, 28 KOs) in a foul-filled bout earlier this month at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Muratala and Davis, a 2020 Olympic silver medalist, have both fought five 10-round bouts.
During the week of the fight, Muratala said on Sean Zittel's YouTube channel, “I think fighting Keyshawn is a step back for me, to be honest with you. I think I'm ready for a title fight.”
WBO belt holder Denis Belincik is reportedly Murata's top target, but a showdown with Davis, whether it's next or in the long term, would likely garner more interest.
