Actor Rob Lowe reflected on his younger days when he “competed” in boxing matches with Tom Cruise, People magazine reported.
He recently appeared on The Rich Eisen Show and reminisced about working with Cruise.
Row Eisen said Cruise met the “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” actor when they were both 17 and starred in Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 film adaptation of S. E. Hinton's 1967 novel “The Outsider.” Cruise played one of the Greasers, Sodapop Curtis, while Cruise played Steve Randle.
“He lived in Emilio [Estevez]”I auditioned right after Taps,” Rob Lowe recalls.
The three young actors co-starred in The Outsiders alongside Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze and Diane Lane.
Mr. Lowe said that he cruise “We would train and jog together like running buddies,” but his favorite memory is when they both needed a timeout.
“He was so competitive that he would box in the hallways of the hotel he was staying at during 'The Outsiders,'” he said.
“It's a lot of testosterone. We're 18-year-olds stuck on location, so we've got headgear on, mouthpieces on, but we're still sparring.”
Rowe recalled that he had “arms like pipe cleaners” at the time, and said Cruise was “muscular” and “beastly. ” Somehow, Rowe was able to land a “really clean” shot.
“I rang his bell, and the next thing I knew, I was waking up, I was on the floor regaining consciousness,” Law told Eisen, “and he'd knocked me completely out.”
“He got a black eye, but that's what we did,” Rowe added. “That's what guys do. Like Fight Club.”
Lowe is the host of the Fox game show “The Floor,” which has been renewed for second and third seasons, and is also the host of the Fox drama series “9-1-1: Lone Star,” People magazine reported.
