Columbia, South Carolina – South Carolina women's soccer coach Shelley Smith has announced the schedule for the 2024 season, kicking off the year with an exhibition match against new USL team Carolina Ascent FC. The full schedule can be found below. here.
“I'm excited for the start of the 2024 fall season and to see where it takes us as we head into the postseason,” said Coach Smith. “Our non-conference games will feature a good balance of competitive games on the road and at home, which should prepare us well for the always tough SEC season. We have a talented group full of returning players who are hungry for another championship season! The fan support at Stone Stadium has been phenomenal, we led college football in attendance in 2023 and are looking to break even more attendance records this fall. I'm sure our fans will enjoy what they see on the field and I look forward to competing for them all season long.”
The Gamecocks will begin the season with an exhibition match against Carolina Ascent FC (Aug. 5) in their first-ever match against a professional team, before hosting Wake Forest (Aug. 10) in another exhibition match before opening the 2024 regular season at home against Furman (Aug. 18).
South Carolina then travels south to Tallahassee to face the defending national champion Florida State on Aug. 22. South Carolina has faced the defending national champions in two of the past three seasons.
Four non-conference home games are scheduled for women's soccer in 2024, including against in-state rival Clemson (Sept. 5). The game against the Tigers will be the 31st.st This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams, having met every season since the Gamecocks began their program in 1995. South Carolina will be looking to pick up some Palmetto Series points after last season's 0-0 tie.
Following a home game against College of Charleston (Aug. 25), the Gamecocks will travel to northern Ohio to take on both Ohio State (Aug. 29) and Miami (Sept. 1) for the first time in program history.
SEC play begins with an away game at Georgia (Sept. 19) before returning home for conference openers against Kentucky (Sept. 22) and Mississippi State (Sept. 29). The Gamecocks will face Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Tennessee on the road before hosting Florida, Alabama and Auburn in Columbia. The 2024 regular season will conclude at home against the Auburn Tigers (Oct. 27) before the Gamecocks prepare for the postseason.
The 2024 SEC Tournament will be held Nov. 2-9, again in Pensacola, Florida.
