Jake Paul, a popular YouTube influencer and boxer, had been promoting a fight against legendary heavyweight champion Mike Tyson for some time, but the fight was postponed due to Tyson's ill health. The fight was originally scheduled for July 20, 2024, but was postponed to November. Tyson's replacement was officially announced on June 18, and Jake is scheduled to fight on July 20, waiting for Tyson to recover.
Jake Paul and Mike Perry are set to compete in an eight-round boxing match at the Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay. “I promise we'll put on a fight the world wants to see!” Mike said in a media report.
The 32-year-old Mike Perry is a deadly Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship star and former UFC fighter with a mixed martial arts (MMA) record of 14-8 with 11 knockouts, making him an extremely dangerous and formidable opponent for a mostly amateur fighter like Jake Paul.
“I'm going to hit him, he's going to hate it. I'm going to chase him around the ring, tire him down and keep the pressure on him. It doesn't matter what he does in training. I don't watch any video, really. My mates might watch it, but if I were to watch anything it would be the highlight of the Tommy Fury fight,” Perry said.
Perry, also known as “Platinum”, is 5'10″, weighs 170lbs and has a 71″ reach compared to Paul's 6'11″ height and 76″ reach. Paul has been working hard to make weight for the Tyson fight and the weight gain will give him an advantage over the Michigan native. Jake, also known as “Problem Boy”, has fought 10 professional fights with a record of 9-1, including 6 knockouts.
Perry was knocked out in the fourth round by Kenneth McNeil in his only boxing bout on March 28, 2015. Records show he has not competed in a professional boxing bout since then, but he has won all six of his fights since retiring from UFC, including five with BKFC.
With an impressive record and plenty of experience in bare-knuckle boxing and the UFC, this will obviously be Perry's second professional boxing bout, and the pressure is on him to dominate in his next bout. Jake believes Perry is the ideal opponent to prepare him for his upcoming bout with “Iron Mike,” noting that Perry possesses exceptional knockout skills.
Taunts play a big role in a fighting mindset and psychology, something Jake alluded to ahead of his impending bout: “Those who know me know I'm a risk taker. Platinum Perry may try to beat me, but I'm Titanium Jake Paul and I fear no one. I'm going to come out victorious and give everyone a preview of what I bring to the ring against Mike Tyson. Tune in on DAZN PPV as I return to Tampa and bring Platypus Perry back to bare-knuckle for good,” Jake added.
