The New Jersey Devils agreed to terms with the forward on a one-year, two-way contract. Adam BeckmanBeckman will receive a league-minimum salary of $775,000 in the NHL and $125,000 ($150,000 guaranteed) in the AHL.
Beckman was recently traded to the Minnesota Wild. Graham ClarkBeckman played three seasons professionally with the Wild after finishing his junior career with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League, quickly becoming one of the Wild's leading scorers with 57 goals and 108 points in 181 games for the Iowa-based team's AHL affiliate.
There was also criticism of Beckman's play on the defensive side of the puck during his time with the AHL Wild, finishing with a combined rating of -29. Iowa finished in the top 15 in goals allowed during Beckman's first two years with the team, but finished tied for 29th last season with the San Diego Gulls.
Beckman has appeared in 23 games for Minnesota over the past three years as an injury replacement but didn't see much action, averaging just 10 minutes and 2 seconds of ice time per game. He is yet to record his first goal at the NHL level but has three assists so far.
Beckman is unlikely to start the season in New Jersey and will likely be traded to the Utica Comets of the AHL. The Devils have strengthened their forward corps this offseason, Thomas Tatar, Stefan Noesenand Paul Cotter That should leave no room on the roster for Beckman, who could potentially fill in for injuries in New Jersey and add some solid scoring power to the Comets.
