Recently the boxers who will represent Great Britain at the Paris Olympics were announced, and now we present the eight American boxers who will be aiming for gold in France. The Olympics are special in many ways and we as combat sports fans make sure to tune in and hope to see the next Ali, Foreman, Frazier, De La Hoya, Lewis, Leonard, Spinks or Patterson.
Here are the eight boxers who will represent America in boxing in 2024:
– Roscoe Hill – Flyweight
– Jamal Harvey – featherweight
– Omari Jones – Welterweight
– Joshua Edwards – super heavyweight
– Jennifer Lozano – flyweight
– Alyssa Mendoza – Featherweight
– Jajaira Gonzalez – Lightweight
– Morrell McCain – Welterweight
There are eight boxers, four women and four men, looking to recapture the glory that the United States once took for granted in terms of Olympic boxing victories. There was once a glory period for American boxers, when the greats listed above regularly brought home medals, but in recent years the United States has not had as much success in Olympic boxing.
The eight talented boxers who make up the new team are looking to change that.
Flyweight competitor Roscoe Hill may be a familiar name to some combat sports fans. Hill's father trained under heavyweight legend George Foreman (who won gold at the 1968 Mexico Games), and the 29-year-old has spent a lot of time training at Foreman's gym in Texas. It was George who even christened him Roscoe. Like his seven teammates, Hill is talented and hard-working, and is seen by many as the favorite to bring home a medal at the Olympics.
It promises to be a great Olympics, not just for boxers but for all athletes competing from around the world.
The boxing matches will begin on July 27th with the final taking place on August 10th.
Will the U.S. win a medal or even more here in 2024?
