The ongoing turmoil surrounding the Colorado Buffaloes football team will keep you entertained for ages, and just when you think things have calmed down a bit, a prime coach or someone from the Sanders family will give everyone something even more entertaining than what we've seen before.
The big concern surrounding Shedur Sanders' offensive line has been a question ever since his time at Jackson State, but he could break the single-season touchdown record against Alcorn State in 2022. He was on track to set a record at CU as well, but missed last season due to injury.
Coach Prime's other son, Travis Hunter, is playing a beta version of Colorado's EA Sports College Football 25 game and says, “The O-line is real.” Yes, very real. “They just can't block.”
Everyone needs to keep in mind that three of the five starters on last season's offensive line will play for the Buffaloes in 2022, and they allowed just 22 sacks during their one-win season. So, my suggestion is that the number of sacks is biased toward the offensive line, or the quarterback is holding the ball in the pocket too long. It certainly depends, but allowing nearly five sacks per game is problematic.
Deion Sanders has been a big recruit, but what about five-star QB Julian Lewis?
Shadur Sanders quickly appeared online and said Hunter was talking about the offensive line starting in 2023, which may be true. But the question that all Buffaloes fans will soon know the answer to is how badly this offensive line will protect CU's “improved” QB in the pocket this season. Will he be able to stand back and order his favorite Starbucks drink, wait for DoorDash to deliver it to the stadium, take a sip, and find his favorite wide receiver vacant on the other side of the field? Or will we see more of what Buffaloes fans had to endure last season?
Remember when Khalil Benson was raging at his teammates and said, “If I get sacked 50 times this year, I'm in big trouble. You guys won't be here and who cares what you say?” He was upset about the offensive line's lack of effort. He hadn't experienced that in his previous three seasons at Indiana.
If I were a betting man, I'd bet on seeing Sanders get sacked again.
30 this season, because I believe Hunter is telling the truth that no offensive line currently on campus can block for them and Sanders is going to find another Herculean way to turn sour lemons into sweet tea.
