When Caleb Aland took over as head football coach at Flathead High School in 2022, he wanted to pair some of the Braves’ best players of the past with current athletes from the area, and one name came to mind: Brock Osweiler.
Osweiler, who was inducted into the Montana Football Hall of Fame last month, graduated from Flathead High School in 2009 and attended Arizona State University, where he set numerous records as a starting quarterback. The Denver Broncos selected him with the 57th pick in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.Number He was drafted and began a seven-year career in the professional league.
A highlight of his professional career came in 2015, when Osweiler started against the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots and led the Broncos to a 30-24 victory. The Broncos went on to win Super Bowl 50 that season.
“It took me a while to get in touch with Brock after I took the job,” Aland said, “I think a lot of times successful people, especially successful athletes, are inundated with requests from people they know, but he always makes time for the Flathead community, and that time will be so precious to the Flathead high school students, especially the younger generation of football players.”
Last summer, Osweiler joined Aland and the Braves for a two-day football camp that included 10 teams and more than 100 youth. This year's camp will be a one-day event for youth and high school students and is set to far surpass last year's event.
More than 200 children in grades three through eight pre-registered for the camp, Orlando said.
“A lot of kids that age are still trying to figure out if they like football. We know that one bad experience in sports at a young age can ruin your future sports, so it's important to give them positive experiences early on,” Aland said. “If you asked every kid in our camp if they wanted to play in the NFL, most of them would say yes. We want them to go on to high school and say, 'I came here because I remember the day I went to football camp with Brock.' Even if they don't want to be a quarterback, they want to be with people who've been to the Super Bowl. We want everyone to have the best time at camp.”
In addition to appearing at summer football camps, Osweiler helped fund renovations to Flathead High School's strength facility in 2020, providing kids with a state-of-the-art training center.
“It says a lot about Brock's character that 15 years after graduating he remains so involved in the school and the community,” Alland said, “and I think it says just as much that the school and the community are the programs he still wants to be involved in.”
The Flathead Braves Football Camp for high school and youth players will be held at Legends Stadium on July 20. The camp will feature a throwing session for high school athletes from 9-10:30 a.m., followed by a camp for youth players from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon, followed by a tailgate party with food provided by 406 BBQ and Sweet Peaks, with parents and families encouraged to stay and watch the game.
Attendance at the camp is free, but players who do not register by July 11th will not be guaranteed a camp shirt. For more information, Click here for details.
