The NBA announced the groups for the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup (previously known as the in-season tournament), which will begin on Nov. 12 and conclude with the final on Dec. 17.
All 30 teams will be randomly split into groups of five within their conferences based on their win-loss records for the 2023-24 regular season, with the groups announced Friday by ESPN.
Group C in the Western Conference includes strong teams such as the Denver Nuggets, Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans, Golden State Warriors, and Memphis Grizzlies. The Los Angeles Lakers, who won their first tournament in the season, are in Group B in the Western Conference along with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz, and San Antonio Spurs.
The reigning NBA champions, the Boston Celtics, are in Group C in the Eastern Conference along with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards.
From November 12 to December 3, each team will play four games: one against each team in their group (two at home and two away). Eight teams will advance to a knockout round (six group winners and two wild card teams) to play single-elimination quarterfinal games, followed by the semifinals and final, which will be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The complete tournament schedule will be announced in August.
