According to admissions records at the Athens-Clarke County Jail, both Smael Mondon and Beau Furey were released on bail following their arrests earlier this week.
ATHENS, Ga. — Two University of Georgia football players were arrested earlier this week on charges of reckless driving.
Senior linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. was arrested July 10 and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Beau Furey was arrested July 9, according to arrest records from the Athens-Clarke County Jail.
UGA Insider's Radi Nabulsi first reported the arrest Thursday morning.
It is not clear from the records whether the arrests are related or from separate incidents.
Mondon was charged with reckless driving and racing on a highway/street and released about an hour and a half later on $26 bail, according to arrest reports. Hughley was arrested for reckless driving and failure to maintain lane/improper operation of roadways and released about an hour and a half later on $26 bail.
The two football players were arrested by separate agencies: Mondon by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department and Hughley by the University of Georgia Police Department.
11Alive has reached out to the University of Georgia's football program for more information on the incident.
The two arrests are the latest in a series of driving-related charges and arrests involving the University of Georgia football program.
“It's disappointing any time there's a traffic accident,” head coach Kirby Smart said of the issue last year. “My biggest concern is the safety of our players. Driving at high speeds is dangerous. We don't want that to happen.”
