The PPV prices for the Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov fight on August 3 have been announced, and they're a pretty good deal: the event will retail for $79.99 on DAZN and ESPN+ platforms, and for fans in the UK, DAZN prices are £24.99 for new subscribers and £23.99 for non-new subscribers.
The initial price shock
Some fans have complained on social media about the PPV price, but the talent on the undercard makes the Aug. 3 card a good value, with fans surprised at the seemingly shocking price of $79.99.
There's a moment of shock when fans see the prize tags for the night, which is why it's important for event promoters to let fans know about the other featured bouts on the card, some of which may be better than the main event.
Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) is a good fighter, but he hasn't fought in the last year and has only fought in every year of the last four years since 2020. It's hard for boxing fans to get excited about a fight when a fighter has only fought once a year for four years straight.
Featured matchups:
– Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz vs. Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela: Keeper of the pack
-Jared Anderson vs. Martin Bacall
– Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller
– David Morrell vs. Radivoje “Hot Rod” Karadzic
– Andy Cruz vs. Antonio Moran
Considering fans aren’t all that excited about seeing a bout between the currently inactive 36-year-old Crawford and WBA junior middleweight champion Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs), one way to promote the Aug. 3 card would be for promoters to place more emphasis on the undercard bouts, specifically “Pit Bull” Cruz vs. “Rayo” Valenzuela.
Many American fans would rather see this fight than Crawford vs. Madrimov, and organizers of the Aug. 3 event have placed Crawford in the main event to prepare him to move up to 168 pounds in 2025 to face Canelo Alvarez for the undisputed super middleweight title.
It's understandable that they would want to main-event Crawford even if it's a fight that American fans don't really want to see. The organizers would have been better off putting Crawford against Jaron “Boots” Ennis in the main event on August 3, because fans have been waiting for that fight for years and many of them feel that Terence is scared of the young lion.
A better card than the others
It's a level above the undercard of the last fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia on May 4. The Aug. 3 card is far superior to the 5-on-5 event and the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois scheduled for Sept. 21.
