As Steve Kerr and the U.S. men's basketball team prepares for the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Warriors coach has some comfort heading into the tournament.
Stephen Curry will join Kerr in his quest for a gold medal in Paris.
“Having Steph join us is great for any one of a couple of reasons,” Kerr told reporters on Tuesday at Team USA training camp in Las Vegas. “He's obviously a great player, but the comfort level we have when we're together is that we're going to have him go through the same motions that we do at Golden State. He's very familiar with everything that we do.”
“But it's not just X's and O's. He's one of our leaders and for me he's an ear for one of our leaders and vice versa. I think that helps the communication process with the rest of the team.”
Kerr was an assistant coach on the gold medal-winning U.S. team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic), but this will be Curry's first Olympic appearance.
Kerr and Curry have been partners with the Warriors since 2014 and built a dynasty in Golden State, reaching six NBA Finals together and winning four championships.
There's no one else Kerr would rather have by his side as he leads the U.S. Olympic team before he retires from his head coaching job.
Team USA will open a five-game exhibition schedule against Team Canada on Wednesday in Las Vegas at 7:30 pm PST.
