1926 – Bobby Jones wins the U.S. Open golf tournament for the second time with a shot of 293.
1934 – Carl Hubbell strikes out Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin in succession, but the American League comes from behind to win the All-Star Game at the Polo Grounds, 9-7.
1936 – Philadelphia's Chuck Klein hits four home runs in a 9-6 Game 10 victory over the Pirates at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh.
1951 – Britain's Randy Turpin beat Sugar Ray Robinson in 15 rounds to win the world middleweight title, Robinson's second loss in 135 fights.
1960 — UEFA European Championship Final, Parc des Princes, Paris, France: Viktor Ponedelnik scores in extra time to help the USSR beat Yugoslavia 2-1.
1971 – Lee Trevino made a double bogey on the penultimate hole but rallied for a birdie on the final hole to win the 100th British Open by one stroke over Lu Lianghuan. Trevino, who had won the U.S. Open a month earlier, became just the fourth golfer to win both tournaments in the same year, joining Bobby Jones (1926, 1930), Gene Sarazen (1932) and Ben Hogan (1953).
1976 – Johnny Miller shoots a final-round 66 to beat 19-year-old Spaniard Seve Ballesteros by six strokes to win the British Open. Ballesteros, who started the final round two strokes behind Miller, shot a 74 to finish tied for second with Jack Nicklaus.

1999 – Team USA wins the Women's World Cup by defeating China in sudden death. The Americans win the shootout 5-4, with defender Brandi Chastain scoring the winning goal.
2010 – Paula Creamer won her first major championship by never relinquishing the lead in the final round of the U.S. Women's Open. Creamer shot a 2-under 69 in the final round to finish with a tournament total of 3-under 281.
2010 – Spain wins the FIFA World Cup with a tough 1-0 victory over the Netherlands in extra time, with Andrés Iniesta breaking free and scoring with a right-footed shot from eight yards out, just outside the outstretched arm of goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
2011 — The United States advances to the semifinals after one of the most exciting matches in Women's World Cup history in Dresden, Germany. The U.S. beat Brazil 5-3 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 tie. Abby Wambach scores a thrilling goal to tie the game in the 122nd minute, and goalkeeper Hope Solo again blocks a Brazilian shot.
2016 – Andy Murray beat Milos Raonic 6-4, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) on Centre Court to win his second Wimbledon title.
2016 – Brittany Lang wins her first major championship at the U.S. Women's Open after Anna Nordqvist hit her club in the sand in a bunker and was penalized two strokes in a three-hole playoff. The penalty occurred on the second hole of the playoff and was not communicated to the players until the final hole, after an umpire reviewed the replay in a recent controversy at a USGA event. Lang made a short par putt on the final playoff hole to secure the win, but Nordqvist lost by three strokes with a bogey.
2017 — An independent review of the scoring of Manny Pacquiao's loss to Jeff Horn for the WBO welterweight world title has found the bout in Pacquiao's favor. A Philippine government agency has asked the WBO to investigate the refereeing and judging of the so-called “Brisbane Fight” in Australia on July 2. Horn fought for his first world title and defeated 11-time world champion Pacquiao by unanimous decision. According to the WBO, of the five independent reviewers who reviewed the bout, three scored it for Horn, one scored it for Pacquiao and one scored it a draw.
2021 — Australia's Ashleigh Barty defeats Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 to win Wimbledon.
2022 — Wimbledon Men's Tennis: Novak Djokovic beat Australia's Nick Kyrgios 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 to win his fourth consecutive Wimbledon singles title and a record-tying seventh. Djokovic has 21 Grand Slam titles to his name.
