Of the four teams remaining in the 2024 Copa America, only one is from North America, and unfortunately for American soccer fans, it's not the United States Men's National Team.
The Copa America semifinals begin Tuesday (8 p.m. ET, FS1/Univision) with powerhouse Argentina taking on Canada at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Canada, making its Copa America debut, beat Venezuela 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Friday to become just the fourth CONCACAF team to reach the tournament's semifinals. Argentina also advanced to the semifinals with a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Ecuador despite one of its biggest stars battling injuries.
Lionel Messi missed some games early in the tournament because of a nagging leg injury, but he will be in the starting lineup for Argentina, who are expected to qualify for Sunday's final. BetMGM has Argentina at -330 to win and Canada at +850 to win.
The two teams met in the group stage, with Argentina winning 2-0 with goals from Julián Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez. Canada coach Jesse Marsch, whose team was held scoreless by Argentina in their opening Copa match, told reporters at a press conference on Monday that “this should be our best game yet against Argentina, but it might not be enough.”
