Alibeg Rasoulov made a big impact in his promotional debut at ONE Fight Night 23.
In the main event, the Turkish powerhouse boxer celebrated a big win in his ONE Championship debut, defeating former ONE Lightweight MMA World Champion Ok Leyun by unanimous decision in a primetime bout in the United States on Friday, July 5.
Rasoulov used his strong clinch work and close-range weaponry to overpower the Korean contender and secure the victory, improving his unbeaten record to 14-0 at the world-famous Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 31-year-old was ecstatic with his win, but the Turkish player believes he could have performed better.
He said:
“First of all, I want to thank ONE Championship. This was my first time competing in ONE. [good] It was my first fight. I fought five rounds.
“It was a pretty difficult match. I'm really happy that I won. My opponent was strong, but I still won. But I think I can do better.”
Although Rasoulof was ecstatic to be nominated, there was probably some bittersweet feeling about putting his hand up.
The two were scheduled to fight for the ONE Interim Lightweight MMA World Title, but despite making weight and passing a final rehydration test, the Turkish athlete did not make it within the official time frame and was therefore ineligible to wear the belt around his waist.
Rather than lamenting the lost opportunity, the Hyperion Fighters representatives are using the experience as an important lesson for the future.
He said:
“I will stay in this weight class. This is my first time competing in ONE Championship. There is also the rehydration test, so it is a bit new for me. That is why I say I can do better. But at the same time, this is a good experience. I will do better in the future.”
Rasoulov eager to win lightweight gold
Alibeg Rasoulov believes that after beating one of the top stars in his division, he is now ready to challenge for the gold medal.
Despite never having held the ONE Interim Lightweight MMA World Title, the Dagestan-born Turkish athlete proved he is worthy of a place on the global stage with his performance against Ok Le Yun.
While Raslov would welcome a match against current two-division champion Christian “The Warrior” Lee, he isn’t necessarily motivated by Lee the man, but rather the prize, and he’s willing to fight anyone for it.
He said:
“It's not about Christian Lee. It's all about the belt. I'm going to face whoever has the belt and take it from them.”
Lazlov is excited about his breakout performance at ONE Fight Night 23 and will be looking to keep his momentum going towards the lightweight title.
Despite being in a gruelling five-round fight just a few days ago, the Hyperion Fighters boss promises to be in good health and ready for his next mission whenever he's called upon.
Rasulov further added:
“I'm not injured and I'm in good shape. I haven't suffered any major damage, so if there is a match, I'll be ready to go.”
