SCOOBA — One of Warren County's most recent soccer greats is beginning his coaching career in the sport.
Ryan Theriot, who led St. Aloysius to two MAIS Class AAA championships in 2018 and 2019, has been hired as an assistant coach at East Mississippi Community College, the school announced Monday.
Theriot played collegiate soccer at Hinds Community College, where current East Mississippi University head coach Chris Rush served as an assistant coach during the spring 2021 season. Theriot scored two goals as the Eagles went 7-4 and advanced to the Mississippi Community College Association Conference playoffs.
“During my time at Hines as a player, I had great respect for Coach Rush's work ethic and dedication to his players, so it was no surprise at all when he accepted the head coaching position at EMCC,” Coach Theriot said in a release announcing his hiring. “I'm honored to have the opportunity to coach alongside him as we work together to bring a championship to Scooba.”
Theriot scored a total of 104 goals in St. Al's two state championship seasons and was named the Vicksburg Post's Warren County Player of the Year in 2019. The Flashes compiled a 35-6 record in 2018 and 2019, including a 17-game unbeaten run that concluded with their second state title.
Theriot was also a MAIS football all-star at St. Albert School.
After his playing career at Hines, Theriot transferred to Southern Miss. He will earn a bachelor's degree in sports management in 2023 while also interning in ticket sales with Southern Miss' sports marketing department. He earned his Master's of Business Administration from Southern Miss earlier this year.
