But Walton, a veteran of 85 amateur fights, was not about to make excuses.
“I've been dealing with injuries. I'm not here to talk about it. I never have,” Walton said of the bout. “In the boxing world, I know what I'm capable of and I know what I can show people in the ring. I want to show people that I'm here for a reason. I'm not fighting on this big stage because it came easy.”
He boasted, “I'm going to keep showing the world why I'm here and one day I'll be competing for a world title.”
Walton will be in training camp for his third pro fight “soon” and promises to come out “in much better shape than my last fight.”
“I'd like people to watch it and make their own judgment,” he continued. “If I performed poorly, I'll admit it. But guess what? I won't.”
Walton has worked with famous UFC fighters and former boxers ( Jake PaulNext match Mike Tyson Or a fight between Paul and someone like a former UFC champion. Tyron Woodley) helped to raise his profile.
“For me personally, it doesn't really matter,” he explained. “I want to fight every fighter who's been in this fight before. I want every fight to be a test. Fighting official boxers with amateur and professional experience is the only way to prepare for a world title fight.”
“I want to fight top-level fighters 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Boxing is not just a way for me to make money,” Walton said.
Walton, incidentally, has no issues with Paul and even signed with the social media star-turned-boxer's promotions company last year.
“What he's brought to boxing overall has been really great,” Walton said of the 27-year-old Paul. “He's been a huge help to the sport.”
As for the timeline for a world title shot, Walton said he wants to remain fluid, but he's not afraid to admit he has his sights set on a title shot.
“I'm not going to set a date,” he said. “When I set a date, I hope the time comes. Hopefully, after 15 races, I can fight for the title. That's the goal.”
To help achieve that goal, Walton has partnered with Samsung to introduce the company's newest mobile product line, which launches this week.
“Samsung is part of a great family,” Walton said. “I love their products. They have a lot of features that other phones don't have, especially their AI technology. Even down to how the phones are built, they're truly one of a kind.”
Galaxy Unpacked, a livestream from Paris, will feature the unveiling of the brand's new product line and will be available on Samsung.com and Samsung's YouTube channel on Wednesday, July 10 at 9:00 a.m. ET.
