UFC veteran Bobby Green has been considering changing his nickname “The King” to his real name for some time now, and after a no-contest result in his bout with Jared Gordon in April 2023, Green finally confirmed it was true. Having won three of his last four bouts, Green has finally King Green His next bout will be a monumental bout against Paddy Pimblett at UFC 304.
“Look at that name. It's been changed. My name is King,” Green said in a video posted to Instagram, showing his legal documents listing his new name as “King.” “I changed my name to let people know I'm not playing.”
“I know I worked hard on Bobby Green, but the goal was to show the journey from nothing to being a king.”
While King doesn't have the best record at UFC (13 wins, 10 losses, and one draw (one uncut)), he has competed against some of the best in the UFC's toughest division at 155 pounds. The 37-year-old King has had wins and losses against Tony Ferguson, Dustin Poirier and current lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in a last-minute bout two years ago.
Green last fought at UFC 300, winning a hard-fought decision over Jim Miller, the UFC's all-time winningest fighter. The newly crowned king will defend his No. 15 ranking against Paddy “The Buddy” Pimblett, who isn't too fond of his opponent's latest alias.
“This mushroom has actually changed its name to King,” Pimblett said of Green, “so from July 28th you can officially call me Kingslayer.”“

It'll be something of a home game for the Liverpool native when he fights in front of a Manchester crowd on July 27. He'll put his unbeaten record at UFC (5-0) on the line against the highly-regarded boxing skills of Green, his most experienced opponent to date. Pimblett is fresh off a win over former interim champion Tony Ferguson at UFC 296 last December.
With just a few weeks until UFC 304, King Greene has already sounded out Premier Promotions regarding a possible bout at UFC 305, which is scheduled to take place less than a month away on August 18 in Perth, Australia.
“My plan is to fight Paddy and if possible, I would also like to fight in Perth if UFC allows it. You can choose your opponent. I hear Dan Hooker is looking for a fight. I'll fight Dan. No problem,” Green said on his Instagram Story.
When he was Bobby Green, King was scheduled to fight New Zealand's Dan Hooker as the co-headline act at UFC Austin last December, but unfortunately Hooker withdrew with an arm injury. 6'3″ lightweight contender Jalin Turner stepped in as a last-minute replacement and TKO'd Green in the first round in April with a ground-and-pound onslaught that Green responded with.
