UPPER MARLBOROUGH, Md. — A former Charlotte 49ers football player has died in an overnight accident, according to Maryland State Police.
Police said they responded to a three-vehicle crash in Upper Marlboro around 3:15 a.m. Saturday.
A preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a silver Infiniti Q50 was traveling north on Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue in Prince George's County.
The driver of the Infiniti was traveling at a high rate of speed when he attempted to change lanes, striking a Dodge Charger and then a Chevrolet Impala.
Police said the Charger then went off the right side of the road and struck multiple tree stumps before coming to a stop.
Police said none of the occupants of the Infiniti or Chevrolet Impala were injured.

However, two occupants of the Dodge Charger, 23-year-old Isaiah Hazell and 24-year-old Kylee Jackson, died at the scene, while a third occupant, 24-year-old Anthony Litton Jr., was taken to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Hazell is a former football player for the Charlotte 49ers. He is a 2023 letterman, according to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and played in all 12 games last season, starting eight as a defensive back.
Head coach Biff Pogge released the following statement regarding his death:
“We are heartbroken today by the news of Isaiah Hazell's untimely passing. Our show mourns his loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to Isaiah's family at this tragic time. All of Isaiah's hopes and dreams were before him, and we pray for his family to find strength now more than ever.”
According to ESPN, Jackson was a rookie cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings.
Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
