We just finished our last day in Las Vegas and it went by so quickly.
We had our second and final scrimmage of development camp and it was awesome. I said I wanted to score today so I stuck to my game and scored one. It felt really good. I thought I had a chance to test Michigan late in the second but it was a little slippery. I'm a skilled kid so I wanted to give them a chance and maybe next time it will work out.
Joe Fleming also had a chance to show off a little bit of skill when he was awarded a penalty shot. After seeing his attempt, I honestly think it probably shouldn't have happened. I don't know what was going through his mind at the time. He said he was close to scoring, but I don't think it was anywhere near that. But you have to give him credit. It would have been really great if he had scored. We all criticized Fleming for that. It was so funny. Then Joe missed the shot and then he fell down on the other side, giving the other team a penalty shot. I think he put the blame on the ref after that.
After having an amazing week here, I think the connections I made were so important. I know that every single person I met will help me get better throughout the year. My nutritionist, my medical people, my lifting coaches, just hearing how much they're going to reach out to me next season and see how I'm doing is something I'm looking forward to. This is not something a lot of people get to experience and it's something I've only ever dreamed of, so I don't take it for granted.
I'm really looking forward to seeing my family when I get home. I haven't had a chance to talk to them much since I got here, but I want to tell them how great my experience here is. They'll be happy to know how great it is here and how well the Golden Knights have treated me. I'm flying back to Michigan tonight on an overnight flight, arriving at 5am, so I might not want to talk much at first, but I'll definitely be there to see them. I'd love to fly here next season and watch some Golden Knights games, hopefully with my family to come and see what it's like. I'm not sure how they'll handle the heat, but I hear it's going to cool down eventually.
When I get home, I'm heading to Tennessee for summer vacation with my family. I'll definitely be sleeping the whole car ride. I play a lot of golf in the summer, especially with my brother. Every weekend we compete in a 2-on-2 scramble with a cousin or another friend. My brother and I are currently leading 4-2, in the top 10, so we need to try to keep that lead. I'm supporting myself and my brother now, so hopefully he'll step up when I get back.
A huge thank you to Vegas for welcoming me and showing me what it feels like to be a Golden Knight. It was an unforgettable week and I can't wait to come back!
