Georgia Tech was one of the best offensive teams in the ACC last season and returns most of the starters from that unit, including Haynes King, Jamal Haynes and Eric Singleton Jr., as well as all four starters on the offensive line. Most of the offseason was spent improving a defense that was 120th in total defense last season. The Yellow Jackets didn't need to make many moves on offense, but that didn't stop them from adding some players who could make an impact.
Coming into the season, it didn't take a genius to figure out that Georgia Tech would likely need to acquire a transfer guard to replace right guard Connor Scaglione and a tight end or two to replace the departing Dylan Leonard and Luke Benson. Georgia Tech did just that, acquiring MTSU guard Kieran Rutledge, Mississippi State tight end Ryland Goad and Yale tight end Jackson Hawes through the transfer portal.
On the defensive line, former USC/Auburn defensive end Romello Height, Miami/Georgia State defensive lineman Thomas Gore and Penn State defensive tackle Jordan Van den Bergh are all ready to contribute this season and I think they will all contribute. At the linebacker position, Georgia Tech has acquired Georgia transfer EJ Lightsey and Louisville's Jackson Hamilton. In the secondary, Warren Burrell (Tennessee), Syed Gibbs (Rhode Island), Zachary Toub (Illinois) and Jaeden Davis (Cincinnati) will join the team to bolster the unit.
Which ones will have the biggest impact? In the latest episode of Bleav Georgia Tech, RJ and Jackson discuss which transfers will have the biggest impact on the offense and defense next season.
