Tony Morgan had 24 points and 11 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season, Carla Dunn added 14 points and nine rebounds, and 10th-seeded Georgia Tech defeated 15th-seeded Pittsburgh 73-60 in Wednesday's first-round game. Broke it. ACC tournament.
Georgia Tech (17-14) advances to play No. 7 seed Duke University in the second round on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will be looking to avenge their 84-46 loss to Duke on January 14th.
Luzne Augustinate was left wide open in the corner, but sank a 3-pointer with 1:49 left to extend Georgia Tech's lead to 64-58. Morgan added a 3-point play 42 seconds later for a nine-point lead.
Georgia Tech finished the game on a 13-2 run with 2:30 remaining and Pitt's only point was a layup by Riatu King with 28.4 seconds left. Morgan made four consecutive free throws to secure the victory.
Augustine Knight added 13 points and Kayla Blackshear added 12 points for Georgia Tech.
The Yellow Jackets led 38-32 at halftime with 10 points each from Morgan and Augustine Knight.
Vera Perkins scored 13 of her 16 points in the first half, and Aislin Malcolm also scored 16 points for Pitt (8-24). King, who was named the ACC's Most Improved Player, went 0-for-5 from the field in the first half, but finished with 15 on 7-of-16 shooting.
Pitt point guard Marley Wasenitz injured his ankle in the final game of the regular season and did not play.
