Queensberry may have earned bragging rights by beating Matchroom in a recent “five-on-five” showdown between the two promotional giants, but the rivalry shows no signs of abating.
Rumours are rife that Matchroom WBC featherweight champion Skye Nicholson (10-0, 1 KO) will defend his title against Queensberry’s Raven Chapman (8-0, 2 KOs).
The bout could take place on the undercard of a highly anticipated light heavyweight title fight between WBC/IBF and WBO champion Artur Beterbiev and WBA titleholder Dmitry Bivol on October 12 in Saudi Arabia.
The entry of Saudi Arabia into boxing has removed a barrier that has long prevented some of the sport's biggest names from fighting together, but so far there has been no women's bout on the supercard. A match between Nicholson and Chapman would change all that.
Nicholson won the title by points over Denmark's Sarah Mahood in April and will make her first defense of the title against Diana Vargas (19-1, 12 KOs) of the Dominican Republic on the undercard of the IBF welterweight title fight between Jaron Ennis and David Avanesyan in Philadelphia next Saturday.
Chapman returns to action in London on July 27 when Joe Joyce takes on Dereck Chisora, before taking on unbeaten Colombian Johana Sarabia, who is 10-0 (6 KOs).
