Between 2017 and 2018, Bradley Hutchison, 39, is alleged to have engaged in sexually-charged online conversations with a 13-year-old girl he had previously met through the martial arts community.
A Calgary taekwondo instructor is facing charges relating to viewing, creating and possessing child sexual abuse material following an investigation by ALERT Internet Child Exploitation (ICE).
ALERT's investigation into Bradley Hutchison, 39, began in April 2024 following a tip received through Cybertip.ca. Between 2017 and 2018, Hutchison allegedly engaged in sexually-charged online conversations with a 13-year-old girl he had previously met through the martial arts community. Hutchison is an instructor and owner of Calgary-based taekwondo gym Hydra Martial Arts.
While there is no direct link between the victims and Hydra Martial Arts Studio, ALERT investigators are concerned it may be convenient for the suspect.
“This individual was heavily involved in the martial arts community and was responsible for instructing children and young people with special needs. It is extremely disturbing to our force when we see someone in this position of authority and trust being abused,” said ICE Staff Sergeant Mark Auger.
Hutchinson was arrested at his home with the assistance of Calgary Police Service on June 25, 2024. His home and martial arts shop (address: 11166 42 Street SE) were searched and multiple electronic devices were seized, including a cell phone and a laptop.
Hutchison faces the following charges:
- abducting children;
- Producing child pornography
- Accessing child pornography.
- Possession of child pornography.
A thorough forensic analysis is ongoing and may lead to additional charges and the identification of potential victims.
“Based on the information we have received, investigators believe the victims occurred between 2017 and 2018, but anticipate there may be additional victims as the investigation into these devices continues,” Auger added.
Hutchison was also known to use the alias “Dan Chambers” online.
ICE urges anyone with information about this incident to come forward and contact police. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Calgary Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
Established and funded by the Alberta Government, ALERT is the province's most sophisticated conglomeration of law enforcement resources committed to combating serious organized crime.
