This Saturday, London's Copper Box Arena is expected to be packed with boxers and it's shaping up to be a great night not just in terms of boxing but also in terms of football. The heavyweight bout/guaranteed fistfight between “The Romford Bull” Johnny Fisher and “The Savage” Alen Babic will definitely get the fistfight fans going wild. Meanwhile, before the heavyweight bout, a big England vs Switzerland match will be broadcast at the arena.
So the excitement will be building. We pretty much know what's going to happen in this heavyweight bout: a KO, either way. And that's after a close, hard, hard and not very pretty fight between the two men. But in football, you never know. Will England be able to avoid defeat on Saturday and stay in the Euros? Or will Switzerland prove too good, too polished?
Babic led the press conference for the final time today, to sell out the remaining tickets for the Babic vs. Fischer match and make the match available on DAZN for fans who can't make it to the stadium. With the F-word flying around everywhere, Babic was adamant that he was “not going to be a victim” on Saturday. “Never!”
Fischer is only 25, but he has a huge fan base and, as Eddie Hearn said today, a chance to become “one of the biggest stars in British boxing” with a win over the 33-year-old Babic, whom he says he respects. For some reason, Babic doesn't believe it, and says Fischer, Hearn and everyone involved were wrong to take the fight.
Babich may think he's being viewed as a stepping stone, but that's not the case. Either man could win this bout. Babich, 12-1 (11), challenged Lukasz Lozinski for the bridgerweight belt last April but lost quickly. But the Croatian moved up to heavyweight again in March, beating Steve Robinson.
Fischer, 11-0 (10), has stepped up a level in this fight and is happy to agree. There will be fireworks as the fight goes on, and if the crowd can get to see a great action fight that ends with a highlight reel knockout and a win for England's best, it will be a special night indeed.
Prediction: Babich dominates Fischer early on but then loses in a thrilling match over the third and fourth rounds. Switzerland wins 1-0.
