The university's athletic department announced Wednesday that the BYU football team will play a home-and-home series against Colorado State in the future. BYU will visit Colorado State to face the Rams on Sept. 19, 2026. Colorado State will return to Provo a few years later on Sept. 8, 2029.
The matchup will mark the first football game between BYU and Colorado State since 2010, when both schools were members of the Mountain West Conference. BYU and Colorado State have been conference rivals for many years. The schools have played each other a total of 69 times. BYU is currently on a seven-game winning streak against the Rams, dating back to 2004.
Colorado State is the third non-conference game on BYU's 2026 schedule. The Cougars are scheduled to host Utah Tech and USF that season. The BYU vs. USF game was originally scheduled for mid-October, so this game could be rescheduled, postponed, or canceled. Each year, BYU tries to incorporate at least one non-conference Power Four opponent into their schedule. As of this writing, BYU's schedule does not include any non-conference Power Four teams. BYU may cancel its game against USF if it is able to play a P4 team in 2026.
In 2029, BYU had one non-conference game scheduled: a road trip to Ole Miss. However, that game was also scheduled for September 8th. As a result, the BYU vs. Ole Miss game has either been moved to another date or canceled. No other non-conference games are scheduled for the 2029 season.
