Ghana's boxing industry is set to undergo a major transformation with the arrival of Game TV, a new dedicated sports television station with a particular focus on boxing.
The agency aims to use its resources to revamp the industry and bring new enthusiasm and opportunities to local fighters.
Game TV has made a significant move to boost the industry by partnering with Ayitey Powers Promotion. The collaboration aims to train local boxers for world titles and pave the way for them to achieve international success.
The inaugural edition of the Itay Powers boxing promotion themed “The Power of the Fist” will take place at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra from June 29-30, 2024 to showcase the prowess of Ghanaian boxers and set the stage for them to make it to the world stage.
General Manager of Game TV, Mr Goodfellow Day Offei, expressed the station’s determination to revitalise boxing in Ghana.
“Our idea as a TV brand is to create a niche market for sports and gaming. We decided to back a few specific sports and boxing was one of them,” Offei said in an interview.
“I believed boxing also needed a makeover and that's why I decided to partner with Aitai to embark on this journey,” he added.
The initiative marks the start of a regular series of bouts designed to keep boxers active and in top condition. The first event was a huge success, with the arena packed and fans struggling to find seats.
With the support of Game TV and Ayitey Powers Promotion, boxing in Ghana is set to reach new heights, provide local fighters with an opportunity to perform on the world stage and inspire a new generation of athletes.
