Perez recently defended his WBC belt, adding another championship to his collection and rising to No. 11 in the WBC rankings.
HARRISBURG, Pa. — Harrisburg's Antonio Perez continues to make a name for himself in the WBC boxing world.
His most recent fight was on the undercard of Adrien Broner, and he not only defended his title, he added another one to his collection, all while keeping his hometown of Harrisburg as his main reason for fighting.
“Not many people make it out of Harrisburg,” Perez said, “and I want to be one of those few and set an example for young people.”
Perez's professional record is currently 10-0, proof that all the hard work he's put in since taking up boxing at a young age and quickly becoming addicted to the sport has paid off.
Since then, he has been trying to prove that Harrisburg can produce talent.
“There's not a lot going on in Harrisburg, especially boxing-wise,” Perez said. “I still have a lot I want to do and I know I can do it.”
The Capital Punishment Gym product is currently ranked 11th by the WBC and while he and his team aren't happy with that number just yet, their approach is calculated.
“Going to Florida was a really big deal for us and for Harrisburg,” trainer Jose Martinez said. “He acted like he was right at home, stepped in the ring and really made it his own.”
Perez's next fight has not yet been scheduled, but is expected to take place sometime in December.
