Lightweight contender William Cepeda will face Giovanni Cabrera (22-1, 7 KOs) on Saturday night, July 6. Cepeda (30-0, 26 KOs) is hopeful that a win over Cabrera will put him in a title fight next against one of the champions.
The way the 28-year-old Cepeda is fighting right now, it doesn't matter which champion he faces — he's going to be a pain for them.
Saturday's fight between Cepeda and Cabrera is scheduled for 12 rounds at Toyota Arena in Ontario, Calif. The event will be broadcast live on DAZN starting at 8 pm ET.
Cepeda is a classic pressure fighter who puts pressure on his opponents to tire them out and aim for a knockout. He is good at tiring out fighters who are on the move, so it will be interesting to see how he fares against WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson when it comes to a world title shot.
Cabrera is fresh off a 10-round decision over Ricardo Quiroz in March of this year. The 29-year-old last fought, losing a close 12-round decision to Isaac “Pit Bull” Cruz in July of last year.
For some reason, Golden Boy Promotions doesn't do much promotion for this card, and since Zepeda is a good fighter, one would think Golden Boy would let fans know about this bout.
Cepeda's recent wins include wins over Maxi Hughes, Mercito Gesta, and Joseph “JoJo” Diaz. Jaime Arboleda and Rene Alvarado.
In the co-headline bout, flyweight Ricardo Sandoval (24-2, 17 KOs) will face Angel Acosta (24-4, 22 KOs) in a 10-round contest. The undercard is filled with fighters that even the most avid fighter fans may not know about.
