Denver – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the Club has signed a positive agreement. Joel Kiviranta He signed a one-year contract through the 2024-25 season.
KibilantaKiviranta, 28, appeared in 56 regular season games with Colorado in the 2023-24 season, recording nine points (three goals, six assists), with his six assists tying his single-season career high. The forward also appeared in eight of Colorado's Stanley Cup playoff games, recording two points (one goal, one assist). After attending training camp on a professional tryout (PTO), Kiviranta signed an NHL contract with the Avalanche on November 12 and recorded a regular season career high of three points (one goal, two assists) three days later against Anaheim. He played in his 200th NHL game with Carolina on February 8.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound forward has played in 219 NHL regular season games with the Avalanche and Dallas Stars from 2019-2024, recording 37 points (19 goals, 18 assists). He has played in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in all three of the past seasons and has played in four of his five professional seasons in North America, recording 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 44 postseason games. Kiviranta appeared in the Stanley Cup Final with the Stars in 2020 and helped the team reach the Western Conference Finals in 2023. In his first campaign in North America, Kiviranta was added to Dallas' 2020 postseason roster and recorded a career-high six points (five goals, one assist) in 14 games, including a hat trick in Game 7 of the second round against Colorado.
A native of Vantaa, Finland, Kiviranta signed with Dallas as an undrafted free agent on May 31, 2019 after playing six seasons with SM-Liiga's Joker It (2013-14) and Vaasan Sport (2014-19) programs. He has played in 261 games and recorded 114 points (60 goals/54 assists) in his Liiga career. On the international stage, Kiviranta won a gold medal at the 2019 World Championship with Finland and a bronze medal at the 2013 U-18 World Championship as a teammate with Artturi Lehkonen.
