YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul has officially set a timeline for a world title shot.
In an interview with ESPN's Andreas Hale, Paul declared that he would seek to become a champion boxer next year, following his bout with legendary heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson, originally scheduled for July 20 but postponed to November 15.
“I'm not going to slow down for anybody, I believe I can be world champion in 2025,” Paul said in the 6-minute range. “It's not about the path, I think I'll be ready in the next few months and I'll probably be trying to win in 2025.”
Paul, who competes at cruiserweight, will instead face Bare Knuckle Fight Championship star Mike Perry on July 20. Tyson was forced to withdraw from the bout due to health issues, which led to the postponement.
The 27-year-old Paul has faced plenty of criticism for his choice of opponents in his young career but has a 9-1 record, six of which have come by knockout, and added that he believes many fans don't realise how good he really is because his recent fights have ended so quickly.
“It's really just God-given ability and willpower. People haven't even seen my fights in the past year because I got knocked out in the first round twice,” he said.
It will be interesting to see how Paul fare against such stiff competition, but it is clear he is determined to achieve his goal of winning the title.
